» Day 3 - Trabzon/Amasya (B,L,D)

After breakfast, we will explore the highlights of the city of Trabzon. We will take a detailed look at the extraordinary collection of Byzantine frescoes in the 13th century church of Ayasofya and then will visitAtaturk's Mansion on Soguksu hill facing the Black Sea, the Trabzon Citadel and Sera Lake. On the way to Akçaabat we will lunch at a seaside restaurant that prepares and serves the famous Akcaabat Meatballs. In the afternoon we will drive to Amasya, the birthplace of the famous geographer Strabo and a city that is unique both with its natural environs and its historical values. Located in a narrow cleft of the Yesilirmak (Iris) river, Amasya has a history that dates back 3000 years and today boasts many precious remnants from the civilizations that called it their home. The ruins of the citadel on the rock face of the cleft shelters 2000 year old water-channels, 1000 year old bridges, an ancient mental hospital, an Ottoman Palace and a secret underground passageway. We will spend the night in Amasya and will dine at our hotel.
