Day 2 Istanbul – Ankara (B,L,D)
After breakfast, transfer to the Airport to take a flight to Ankara, the Capital of the Turkish Republic as from 1923. Start with sightseeing tour in Ankara, located in the center of Anatolia. Angyra was its old name and built by Midas the King of Frigia and was conquered by the Lidian, then Alexander the Great, and then the Galates. (there is Paul famous letter to them) The next rulers Byzantines had to fight with many invasions and finally in 1169 it became Seldjukid. Ankara until the exchange of populations had Greek inhabitants and was a mitropolis.
There was immigration from Pontus and from Cappadocia due to the railway construction. Greek quarters were in the Castel Region, there were two churches, one monastery and four schools. After lunch, continue with the visit of the world-wide famous Museum of Anatolian Civilizations (also called Hitite Museum) and the Castle. Visit the Mausoleum of Ataturk (Anitkabir), founder of the Republic of Turkey. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. |
