Day 14 - Rize - Sumela - Trabzon (B, L, D)

This morning our visit will include the Antindere National Park to visit the beautiful and impressive cliff-top Sumela Monastery, which was abandoned in 1923. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the monastery has beautiful frescoes in its sanctuary. It was here that  Emperor Alexis II was crowned in 1340. We continue our tour with a visit to the beautiful Ayasofya Museum, once a 13th century Byzantine Church--Panaya Hrisokefeli. We then visit the Fortress, the Zagnos Bridge and the Ataturk Residence (ex.Konstantin Kapagiannidis Mansion). We will have our dinner and overnight stay in Trabzon.
